The mythical CBD is often confused with another cannabis compound called THC. But even though they are both called cannabinoids and found in the same hemp plant, they are totally separated from each other and have different properties. For a start, one of them is psychoactive and the other one is not – do you know which one does what?
Let’s break it down - the basics of CBD and THC
Hemp, marijuana, cannabis – there’s a lot of plants in the same family out there to keep track of. But it’s actually quite simple. Firstly, both marijuana and hemp are cannabis plants. Cannabis is the umbrella term. Secondly, hemp plants (cannabis sativa) contain less than 0.3 percent THC - while marijuana plants contain higher concentrations of THC. But even though the CBD comes from a plant that has THC in it, it doesn’t mean the final products contain it. At Bliss, we only sell products free from THC. In the hemp plant life cycle, the different amounts of cannabinoids vary. We make sure to harvest when the CBD is maximized and THC minimized, which limits us to only 3 days of harvest per year! After our gentle extraction method (with state-of-the-art Swiss science), we deduct all THC left from the raw oil used in our Original Oil.
How CBD and THC work in your body
Did you know both CBD and THC have the exact same molecular structure? Probably not, but now you sure do! This structure includes 21 carbon atoms, 2 oxygen atoms and 30 hydrogen atoms. And both CBD and THC are chemically similar to your body’s own endocannabinoids (with endo meaning internal) that control energy storage, inflammation, and many other crucial functions in your body.
The different properties of CBD and THC – can you get high of both?
The main difference between CBD and THC is the psychoactive sensation. THC is psychoactive, and CBD is not. In other words, you will not get the “high” feeling from CBD. Instead, it can make your body feel more balanced and stabilized.
Are CBD and THC legal?
CBD is legal to buy in Sweden, all across the EU, and in many other countries around the world. THC, on the other hand, is illegal in most countries. In a few countries, including Switzerland, a low amount of THC in a CBD oil is allowed.
CBD and THC in different forms – from oils and bath salts to space brownies
CBD and THC are available in a variety of forms, and new creative innovations pop up all the time. When it comes to CBD, oil is probably the most common form. It’s designed to be held under the tongue or blent with drinks or food. THC, on the other hand, is mostly known to be smoked or baked in e.g. brownies.
CBD comes in forms such as:
